Social inclusion, in and through education and training, is of the utmost importance when it comes to laying foundations for the development of more prosperous and more cohesive European societies. All Member States face challenges in ensuring equal access, quality and effective governance within all levels of education, from early childhood education and care (ECEC) and compulsory schooling through to vocational education and training (VET), higher education, and adult learning. Action is necessary to advance European-level policy development and cooperation in education and training, in order to support Member States’ efforts to modernise and improve their education systems, and to make them more equitable and inclusive. Thus, the overall objective of NESET, as an advisory Network, is to contribute to the improvement of European-level policy development and cooperation in education and training in order to support and supplement the efforts of Member States to improve and innovate their education systems that combine quality, equity and ensure equal opportunities for all.
NESET Network is a DG EAC project which has been coordinated by PPMI since 2015. The network is a continuation of NESET II (2015-2018) which was predecessed by NESSE (2007–2010) and NESET (2011–2014) networks. 2022 marks the fourth year of the current NESET cycle (2019-2022).
PPMI has mapped and created a network of experts working on the social dimension of education and training (NESET), which currently unites over 60 members and almost 120 affiliated experts. NESET is an advisory network of experts that provides reliable, independent and rigorous scientific support, country-specific expertise and advice to the European Commission, in relation to the equity and social aspects of all types and levels of education and training.
The main NESET outputs to be delivered for the year 2022 include four analytical reports (40-50 pages long), up to ten answers to ad hoc questions (5-10 pages long), dissemination through social media platforms and organisation of webinars/other events, webpage maintenance, as well as the ongoing mapping of experts working on social aspects of education and training.
